Build-a-Bloc's Intention
The goal of this project is not to preach about what is right or wrong in the industry of routesetting, but rather to create an open space to share ideas, information, philosophies, moments and designs. It's important to push the narrative that this craft is truly specialized and requires an astounding wealth of knowledge and understanding.
What is routesetting?
A multi-faceted and ever-evolving practice of design, function, innovation, education, philosophy, and empathy through an interactive craftsmanship. For some, it's a career that aligns with their passion for climbing & movement. For others, it has evolved into an form of art and acts as a creative outlet for the public to enjoy first-hand.
Matteo's Experience/Perspective
Matteo's climbs are processed and executed as organically as possible. He designs his climbs with the overarching theme of improvisation and balance between form and function. His priorities reflect the potential opportunity and ability to consistently provide new and familiar experiences that go beyond simply confronting the physical intentions of a climb and attempt to dive deeper into the psychological intentions. Some common questions he asks himself regularly include, "How will people interact with this climb?" or "What will be their resulting experience from the initial introduction to the final interaction?" With over a decade of dedicated work towards the craft of routesetting, he is grateful to be surrounded by creatives and passionate people who constructively challenge his perspective on a day to day basis. When Matteo is not routesetting, he loves to pretend he can still skateboard, watches cartoons with friends, chases waterfalls and spreads his creativity into other mediums such as photography, film and woodworking.
